Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), part of the UN Secretariat, seeks to establish a regional collaboration framework for mitigation activities under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This role supports the implementation of agreements with international partners and facilitates the authorization of mitigation activities, including for CORSIA.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports ECLAC's Climate Change Economics Unit in fostering mitigation activities for Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and developing a regional carbon market. The specialist will advise on these matters, responding to demands from Chile's Ministry of the Environment and other ECLAC initiatives under the EUROCLIMA program. The primary goal is to contribute to the implementation and management of the carbon market within the Article 6 framework and to support capacity building for a robust regional carbon market.
Responsibilities
The consultant will advise the ECLAC Climate Change Economics Unit on promoting mitigation activities for Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and the regional carbon market. Key tasks include contributing to the implementation and management of the carbon market under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Additionally, the role involves participating in capacity-building initiatives to strengthen and consolidate a regional carbon market. This work supports Chile's environmental objectives and broader ECLAC climate action programs.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in climate change or environmental fields is required. Desirable experience includes at least 1 year working with carbon markets or related areas. Experience with platform management, registries, or information systems is also beneficial.
Skills
Knowledge of climate change, mitigation, carbon markets, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, verification procedures, and platform/registry management. Strong communication skills in English and Spanish are necessary.
