Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), part of the UN Secretariat, seeks a Climate Change Specialist. This role will advise the Climate Change Economics Unit on fostering mitigation activities for the implementation of Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and the national carbon market, responding to demands from Chile's Ministry of Environment and EUROCLIMA program activities.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to foster mitigation activities that align with Chile's HuellaChile Program, contributing to the strategic distribution of results between national carbon certificates and international transfer mitigation outcomes. The specialist will provide substantive input to the implementation and management of the voluntary carbon market, offering recommendations for consolidating demand for national carbon credits. Additionally, the role involves developing a plan to promote and develop the supply and demand of carbon neutrality certificates, directly supporting Chile's climate action goals and the effective functioning of its carbon market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement framework.
Responsibilities
The consultant will provide substantive contributions to the implementation and management of the voluntary carbon market, aligning with the voluntary certification system for greenhouse gas emissions and water use. This includes offering recommendations for consolidating the demand for national carbon credits. Furthermore, the consultant is responsible for developing a comprehensive plan to foster and develop both the supply and demand sides of carbon neutrality certificates. These activities will support the Ministry of Environment of Chile and other ECLAC initiatives within the EUROCLIMA program, ensuring effective response to national climate mitigation needs and the advancement of carbon market mechanisms.
Work Experience
Required: At least 1 year of professional experience in climate change or environmental fields. Desirable: Experience in carbon markets and/or organizational footprint management.
