The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts globally. This home-based, remote internship reports to the UNDRR Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean.
Job Purpose
This two-month, unpaid, full-time remote internship aims to support the advancement of technology integration in disaster risk reduction (DRR). The intern will contribute to the UNDRR's 2026-2027 workplan, specifically focusing on indicators related to technology and innovation generating actionable, locally relevant insights for risk-informed development. The role will help ensure technological advancements promote better governance, management, and analysis of risk data, enabling governments and stakeholders to leverage innovation and technology for large-scale DRR.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the integration of technology to advance disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives. This involves contributing to the achievement of specific workplan indicators focused on leveraging technology and innovation for risk-informed development. Key areas of support include promoting technological innovation and digital transformation to enhance the governance, management, and analysis of risk data. The intern will also assist in efforts to enable governments and stakeholders to effectively utilize risk data at scale for disaster risk reduction purposes, aligning with the goals of the Sendai Framework.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, candidates must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. A demonstrated ability to interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and a willingness to understand different opinions are essential.
