The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) in Paris. The CCAC is a unique international initiative focused on integrated climate and air quality solutions, specifically targeting short-lived climate pollutants. The Science Affairs team supports the CCAC's science-policy interface, coordinating scientific activities and translating findings into actionable insights and tools for partners.
Job Purpose
This role strengthens the CCAC Science Affairs team by enhancing the accessibility, usability, and policy relevance of scientific data and analytical outputs. The specialist will develop analytical tools, data platforms, and policy-relevant products to help CCAC partners, policymakers, and stakeholders better understand and utilize scientific evidence and modelling outputs related to super pollutants. The consultancy aims to improve the CCAC's capacity to translate complex scientific information into accessible tools and insights, thereby accelerating action on super pollutants and near-term climate mitigation. The position will support key Science Affairs priorities, including developing assessment impact tools and enhancing science-policy intelligence systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain accessible datasets and intelligence systems, including the CCAC NDC Tracker, containing modelling outputs from integrated assessments. Produce policy-relevant analytical products, such as briefs and visualizations, derived from scientific findings to support CCAC science-policy engagement. Design and develop analytical tools and interactive dashboards that enable stakeholders to explore CCAC data and modelling results. Conduct user intelligence activities, including stakeholder consultations, to inform the design of analytical tools and visualization products. Provide ad hoc analytical support to CCAC partners and Secretariat staff, responding to requests and contributing to the Science Affairs and Scientific Advisory Panel workplan. Synthesize complex scientific information into accessible formats for diverse audiences.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required in data analysis, environmental policy analysis, climate/air quality research, or similar analytical work. Experience with large datasets, scientific modelling outputs, synthesizing complex information, and developing analytical tools or dashboards is essential. Experience supporting international environmental initiatives or multi-stakeholder partnerships is desirable.
