Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN RCO) support countries in achieving development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals, as part of a global reform repositioning the UN Development System. This role is situated within the UN RCO in Apia, Samoa, reporting to the Resident Coordinator Team Leader.
Job Purpose
This driver position supports the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Apia, Samoa. The primary purpose is to ensure safe and efficient transportation for the UN Resident Coordinator and authorized personnel. The role involves maintaining vehicle upkeep, adhering to strict security and organizational protocols, and performing logistical tasks such as document delivery and minor purchases. Flexibility in working hours is essential to meet operational demands, including travel and after-hours support. The incumbent will also facilitate airport arrivals and departures, manage customs procedures, and maintain accurate logs of vehicle usage and maintenance.
Responsibilities
Safely drive UN Resident Coordinator and authorized personnel. Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all security, safety, and organizational protocols. Be available for flexible working hours, including after-hours, weekends, and official travel. Deliver parcels and documents between UN offices and other institutions. Make minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers, including customs clearance. Meet and assist official personnel at the airport, facilitating immigration and customs. Interact effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors. Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checks, minor repairs, and cleaning. Log official trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance. Ensure proper procedures are followed in case of accidents. Apply good judgment in all assignments. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive, responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience driving various vehicle types, including vans, is necessary. Experience with the United Nations or a similar international organization is desirable.
