Consultancy on Coordinator of the High-level Working Group
Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) coordinates the Africa High-level Working Group on the Global Financial Architecture. This group, comprising African ministers and international financial institutions, monitors and responds to economic shocks affecting African countries and builds consensus on global financial architecture reforms. This consultancy role supports the Working Group as its secretariat.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role serves as the coordinator for the Africa High-level Working Group on the Global Financial Architecture, acting as its secretariat. The primary purpose is to provide both substantive and coordination support to the Working Group. This involves monitoring global economic developments and their impact on African economies, analyzing policies related to global financial architecture reform, and developing key proposals and policy briefs. The role contributes to building consensus among African policymakers and advocating for reforms that empower low- and middle-income countries within the global financial system. The coordinator will facilitate high-level engagements and ensure the effective functioning of the Working Group.
Responsibilities
The Coordinator will monitor and analyze global economic developments and their implications for African economies, providing timely updates and strategic insights. Responsibilities include tracking policies related to global financial architecture reform and assessing their impact on African countries. The role involves drafting key reform proposals, policy briefs, technical notes, and presentations for high-level engagements with policymakers, development partners, and multilateral institutions. Technical input will be provided to ECA's engagement in global and regional economic governance platforms. The Coordinator will manage and backstop Working Group documents and knowledge products, organize meetings, and ensure smooth coordination with internal and external partners. Additionally, the role includes recording activities for monitoring and reporting, preparing progress reports, and creating communication materials for advocacy.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in macroeconomic policy, economic research and analysis, forecasting, and applying economic principles in development programs is required. Substantial experience with Bretton Woods Institutions/Development Finance Institutions is also required. Familiarity with intergovernmental organization workflows is desirable.
Skills
Strong economic analytical skills, econometric modelling/programming skills, knowledge of IMF and Multilateral Development Banks, familiarity with intergovernmental organization practices, coordination, policy analysis, report writing, and communication.
