Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide hands-on experience in communications and public information within the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Cabo Verde. The intern will support strategic communications, digital outreach, media monitoring, and the creation of communication products that promote the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. The role contributes to raising awareness of UN results and organizing public events, offering a valuable learning opportunity in international development and public information within a multicultural setting.
Responsibilities
Support the creation of engaging communication materials, including short videos, reels, photos, visual briefs, and infographics, utilizing mobile devices and accessible software. Draft, edit, and adapt various communication content such as press releases, web stories, social media posts, reports, and briefing notes for RCO and UN Country Team activities. Maintain and update the UN Cabo Verde website and social media platforms with timely and accurate content. Assist with photography, basic video recording and editing, graphic design, and formatting for communication assets. Conduct media monitoring, identify public information opportunities, and compile background information for press briefings. Support the organization of communication-related events, campaigns, and outreach activities. Maintain communication calendars, databases, and archives. Coordinate communication efforts with UN agencies, partners, government counterparts, and civil society.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, familiarity with website updates, social media management, media monitoring, or multimedia editing tools is advantageous. Previous academic, volunteer, or professional experience in communications, journalism, social media, photography, video production, graphic design, or event coordination is desirable.
Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to draft audience-friendly content. Interest in sustainable development, UN, digital communication, or international cooperation. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a multicultural environment. Experience with content creation tools (social media, basic design, multimedia editing) is an asset. Fluency in English and Portuguese.
