Job Purpose
This internship within the Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch (SCPCRB) of the UN Secretariat's Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) aims to contribute to research, analysis, and drafting related to Security Council practice. The intern will support the branch's advisory and research functions, including the preparation of the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council. Additionally, the role involves assisting with public awareness of SCPCRB tools and outputs, and contributing to the branch's outreach efforts. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in international affairs and Security Council operations.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on political developments, particularly those related to Security Council agenda items. Assist in documenting and cataloging information on evolving Council practices and working methods. Perform research, analysis, and drafting for studies intended for the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council. Support outreach initiatives, including the creation of social media content. Help develop and update databases concerning Security Council practices and subsidiary bodies. Undertake other related duties as assigned to support the branch's objectives.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field and demonstrated research and drafting skills are essential. Proficiency in standard software applications is also expected.
Skills
Strong research and drafting skills. Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, and MS PowerBI. Knowledge of Canva and other data visualization tools. Fluency in English. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
