Technology and Logistics Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking an intern for its Division of Technology and Logistics (DTL) in Geneva. This division aims to foster inclusive growth and development through science, technology, innovation, and trade logistics. The intern will support the Director's Office (OoD) Front Office, which provides strategic support to the Division's branches and the Office of the Secretary-General.
Job Purpose
This internship offers students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience within the UN Secretariat, specifically in the Division of Technology and Logistics at UNCTAD. The role is designed to provide exposure to international trade, technology, and development issues. The intern will contribute to research, policy analysis, communication efforts, and event preparation, supporting the Division's mandate to strengthen inclusive growth and development. This position is an unpaid, full-time role, either in-person in Geneva or remote, providing valuable insights into the UN's operational framework and its work in critical global development areas.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in conducting research and policy analysis on trade, technology, and development, focusing on areas such as trade facilitation, value chains, logistics, e-commerce, and women's economic empowerment. Responsibilities include preparing briefing notes and speeches for the Director, contributing to communication documents, and assisting with the classification of documents for division evaluations. The intern will also support the preparation of division events and communication exercises. Additionally, they will provide substantive and logistical support for technical assistance, capacity-building, research, and intergovernmental machinery, and attend, service, and summarize relevant conferences, webinars, and meetings.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. The internship is intended to provide educational experience and practical skills development within the UN system.
