Local Individual Contractor for Website Development, CMS Optimization and Technical Maintenance (CAPVE Website)
Organizational Context
This role supports the UNODC project "Supporting Asian countries’ resilience to violent extremism in the digital space." The project establishes a Regional Network on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) and a dedicated Central Asian PVE (CAPVE) website. The website facilitates knowledge-sharing and best practices among stakeholders, serving as a regional platform for research and data on radicalization and prevention.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise for the Central Asian PVE (CAPVE) website. The Individual Contractor will ensure the platform's full functionality, security, and usability through technical evaluation, system restoration, and ongoing maintenance. This includes upgrading the PHP environment, optimizing cross-browser compatibility, and ensuring administrators can effectively manage content. The role also involves delivering training to administrators and providing recommendations for technical improvements, contributing to the effective operation of a key regional platform for PVE knowledge exchange.
Responsibilities
The Individual Contractor will perform a comprehensive technical evaluation and system restore of the CAPVE website, including upgrading the PHP environment and WordPress plugins to ensure full functionality, cross-compatibility, and security. Responsibilities include testing backend and frontend elements, optimizing for responsive design across devices, and ensuring administrators can easily update content. The role also entails developing and delivering a 1-hour online training session for website administrators on content management and troubleshooting. Additionally, the contractor will provide technical maintenance, executing security patches and stability updates, and identifying/implementing stable, secure alternatives for deprecated plugins, liaising with UNODC on technical solutions.
Work Experience
At least seven years of proven professional experience in full-stack web development, specifically managing, building, and fixing advanced WordPress CMS environments, is required. Demonstrated proficiency in PHP, database management, web server configuration, responsive design, and modern cybersecurity protocols is also required.
