VEHICLE TECHNICIAN
Organizational Context
This position is within the Transport Section of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF). The Vehicle Technician will report to the Workshop Supervisor, contributing to the operational readiness and maintenance of the force's vehicle fleet. The role is crucial for ensuring the effective functioning of transportation services.
Job Purpose
The Vehicle Technician is responsible for the comprehensive servicing and repair of standard civilian commercial vehicles, trucks, and engineering equipment, adhering strictly to manufacturer standards. This includes performing regular vehicle inspections, diagnosing and rectifying faults, and ensuring all safety procedures are followed during maintenance and parts fitting. The role involves documenting all servicing and repair activities, identifying necessary parts, and potentially specializing in areas such as automotive electrical systems, air conditioning, suspension, braking, air, or hydraulic systems. Additionally, the technician may be involved in diagnostic fault finding, quality assurance, road testing, vehicle recovery, and safely modifying vehicles to meet specific operational requirements, including overhauling major assemblies and fabricating components.
Responsibilities
Perform routine servicing and repairs on standard civilian commercial vehicles, trucks, and engineering equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections, including pre-summer and pre-winter checks, on UN-owned vehicles. Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures during repair and parts fitting processes. Accurately diagnose and rectify vehicle faults, and assist in identifying required replacement parts. Specialize in and work on one or more key systems, such as automotive electrical, air conditioning, suspension, braking, air, or hydraulic systems. Engage in specialized areas including diagnostic fault finding with specialized tools, quality control, road testing, and vehicle recovery. Safely modify vehicles for specific requirements, overhaul major assemblies, fabricate components, and perform emergency repairs. Provide training and coaching to other mechanics within areas of expertise. Undertake any other duties as assigned by supervisors or the Head of Unit/Section.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in vehicle maintenance and repair is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates holding a first-level university degree or higher.
