Organizational Context

The UN Secretariat, specifically the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), supports member states in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This role, based in Bangkok, Thailand, contributes to enhancing national SDG reporting through data analysis and visualization, aligning with ESCAP's mandate to provide regional support and develop knowledge products.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to analyze Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) data and create statistical charts and dashboards to support national SDG progress assessments. This is crucial for member states preparing for their Voluntary National Reviews in 2027. By improving the communication of SDG data through clear and professionally designed dashboards, the role aims to increase the use of evidence in national reporting and enhance stakeholder engagement in the Asia-Pacific region's sustainable development efforts.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include sourcing, processing, and analyzing the latest SDG data according to established methodologies. The role involves participating in the development of new methodologies for tracking SDG progress, leveraging data science techniques. A key duty is creating interactive dashboards to visualize data and trends, facilitating SDG data exploration and analysis. These outputs will support member states in their SDG reporting and contribute to ESCAP's broader efforts in promoting sustainable development across the region.

Work Experience

Required experience includes data visualization and developing graphic designs for online publication. Experience within the UN system is considered an advantage. The role focuses on applying these skills to analyze SDG data and create effective data dashboards.
