FIELD SECURITY COORDINATION OFFICER (two posts)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN Security Management System. It enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments. These Field Security Coordination Officer roles are based in Kabul, Afghanistan, a designated "E" hardship, non-family duty station, requiring travel to other locations within the country.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Coordination Officers will contribute to the UN's security and operational responses by providing substantive inputs on the evolving security environment. They will support the development of risk management strategies, utilizing analytical techniques and situational awareness to forecast threats and enhance security programs. The role involves advising on security integration in all UN activities, supporting managers, and enabling mandate delivery through direct operational assistance. This position offers valuable experience in a dynamic organization, contributing to peace, security, and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include forecasting the security environment and UN responses, developing risk management strategies, and analyzing multi-dimensional threats. The role involves preparing and implementing security planning documents, providing written analysis of security trends, and reporting incidents. Officers will advise on integrating security into all UN activities, support line managers, and facilitate consensus among stakeholders for security operations. They will manage security-related projects, monitor preparedness and compliance, and enhance communication and trust with various partners. Additionally, responsibilities include conducting security surveys, supporting contingency planning, maintaining security communication systems, assisting with budget and logistical planning, and managing personnel performance. The role also requires implementing gender, diversity, and inclusion approaches in security risk management.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in security, risk management, emergency preparedness, or related fields is required. Desirable experience includes planning and implementing risk mitigation measures, field operations, international work, security program analysis, and utilizing data analytics for decision-making.
