Job Purpose
The Urban Planning Analyst will provide substantive contributions to enhance the Mesoamerica Office's technical capacity in resilient urban planning. This involves leading the urban dimension of key projects, including the formulation of Integrated Urban Operations, urban and territorial planning instruments with a disaster risk reduction focus, and guiding urban solutions. The role also entails contributing urban perspectives to risk inventories and relevant threat criteria, and ensuring methodological articulation between different project portfolios. The objective is to establish a stable technical coordination point for resilient urban planning within the sub-region, fostering knowledge transfer and strengthening the office's technical capabilities.
Responsibilities
Lead the urban dimension of interventions for projects like 'Local Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction in LAC' and 'UrbanCoast Mesoamerica'. Formulate Integrated Urban Operations and develop urban and territorial planning instruments with a disaster risk reduction (DRR) focus. Provide guidance on urban solutions and contribute urban perspectives to risk inventories and threat criteria. Analyze and diagnose coastal risks from an urban perspective for resilience in coastal areas. Ensure methodological articulation between project portfolios and provide technical input to other urban initiatives. Consolidate a stable technical coordination point for resilient urban planning in the sub-region, fostering learning and strengthening internal capacities.
Work Experience
Minimum of five years of progressive professional experience in urban and territorial planning, urban design, urbanism, urban regeneration, or urban development management. Proven experience in formulating urban plans, territorial ordering instruments, urban regulations, or urban regeneration projects in Latin American and Caribbean cities.
Skills
Urban and territorial planning, urban design, urbanism, urban regeneration, development management, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation, resilience building, global development agendas (Agenda 2030, New Urban Agenda, Paris Agreement, Sendai Framework), international cooperation project experience (valued), experience in Mesoamerica sub-region (advantageous), excellent Spanish oral and written skills, functional English (technical reading/writing).
