The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. Its Mesoamerica subregional office, based in Mexico City, supports this mission. This role contributes to strengthening the office's technical capacity in disaster risk management and urban resilience, aligning with international frameworks like the Sendai Framework and the New Urban Agenda.
Job Purpose
The Disaster Risk Reduction Analyst will provide substantive input to enhance the technical capacity of the Mesoamerica office in disaster risk management and urban resilience. This role will lead data generation and risk mapping activities across four countries for the 'Local Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction in LAC' project, including developing hazard, exposure, and risk maps, risk inventories, and supporting integrated urban operations. For the 'UrbanCoast Mesoamerica' project, the analyst will contribute technical expertise to coastal risk analysis in three pilot cities and support participatory formulation of integrated urban operations for coastal resilience. The position aims to consolidate a stable point of technical articulation for disaster risk management and urban resilience within the subregion.
Responsibilities
Lead data generation and risk mapping activities for the 'Local Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction in LAC' project, encompassing hazard, exposure, and risk maps, risk inventories, and visualization platform conceptualization. Develop regulatory, legal, and financial instruments for disaster risk reduction, and provide risk analysis supporting integrated urban operations and urban solutions guidance. Contribute technical expertise from a risk management perspective to coastal risk analysis for the 'UrbanCoast Mesoamerica' project, collaborating with implementation partners. Support the participatory formulation of integrated urban operations for urban resilience in coastal areas. Ensure methodological articulation between both project portfolios and provide technical input to other initiatives, establishing a stable technical coordination point for disaster risk management and urban resilience in the subregion.
Work Experience
Six years of progressive professional experience in disaster risk management, hazard and vulnerability assessment, environmental engineering, risk scenarios, climate change, and hazard mapping. Proven experience in developing hazard, exposure, and vulnerability maps, environmental impact and risk studies, and risk scenario construction in urban contexts, preferably in Latin America and the Caribbean.
