The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The UNEP Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) in Panama City supports 33 countries. This role supports a flagship initiative focused on ecosystem restoration in the Central American Dry Corridor.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to design, develop, launch, and maintain an interactive, dynamic, and accessible bilingual web platform for the Restoration Investment Plan. The platform will serve as the primary digital communication tool to improve the accessibility, visualization, dissemination, and practical use of the Investment Plan by national governments, donors, private sector, civil society, and local communities. It will facilitate resource mobilization and the replication of restoration models. The role integrates graphic design, web programming, and ongoing website administration, ensuring alignment with UNEP's branding, accessibility, communication, data protection, and gender equality standards.
Responsibilities
The consultant will design and systematize the website's visual identity, including color palettes, typography, icons, and mock-ups, adhering to UNEP and UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration guidelines. Responsibilities include developing graphic and audiovisual materials (infographics, data visualizations, videos) to present the Investment Plan's content clearly and attractively. The role involves designing, developing, testing, and launching a responsive, accessible, bilingual (Spanish/English) website using a CMS for autonomous content updates. Integration of interactive tools, plug-ins, and data visualizations is required. The consultant must ensure website functionality, usability, cross-browser compatibility, speed, accessibility, and security. Ongoing technical maintenance, including CMS and plugin updates, backups, security measures, and domain/hosting continuity for sixty months, is essential. Preparation of technical documentation, user manuals, source code, and asset inventories for formal handover to UNEP LACO is also required. Regular coordination with the UNEP Programme Management Officer and the project team is necessary to ensure outputs meet institutional requirements and timely delivery with revisions.
Work Experience
Requires 5 years of professional experience in graphic design and/or web design. Experience with web analytics, CMS administration, data visualization tools, and digital asset management is desirable. Experience developing and maintaining bilingual websites, particularly for international organizations or environmental initiatives, is also desirable.
