The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the UN agency for urbanization and human settlement matters. The Planning and Finance Section supports urban and territorial planning, including urban design and public space development. This role sits within the Public Space and Urban Regeneration Team.
Job Purpose
This role provides essential technical expertise in landscape planning and design to support the Park City Initiative Project and other activities within the Public Space and Urban Regeneration Team. The specialist will contribute to nature-positive urban planning, green infrastructure development, and tracking urban Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The position involves developing key project materials, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and offering technical advice to ensure the successful implementation of UN-Habitat's urban development and regeneration initiatives, aligning with the agency's mandate for sustainable and resilient cities.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on nature-positive urban planning and green infrastructure development, including monitoring for urban SDG progress aligned with the Park City Initiative work plan. Develop concept notes, talking points, event reports, and other preparatory materials for international events and collaborative activities. Coordinate and communicate effectively with relevant UN-Habitat offices, teams, and external focal points to disseminate project outputs. Provide overall support to the Public Space and Urban Regeneration Team's activities, including offering technical advice and contributing to broader UN-Habitat and Planning and Finance Section initiatives.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience in urban planning, urban design, landscape planning, or ecological design is required. Experience working with an international organization is desirable.
