Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok seeks an intern to support the Section on Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations. This section, within the Office of the Executive Secretary, coordinates work to support least developed countries, landlocked developing countries, and small island developing states, focusing on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Section on Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations at ESCAP, Bangkok. The intern will contribute to the annual Asia-Pacific SDG Partnership Report and the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development. Key contributions include assisting with data analysis, research, literature reviews, and the compilation of reports. The role also involves providing logistical support for meetings and events, updating websites, and assisting the team with daily tasks. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in sustainable development, data analysis, and international cooperation within a dynamic UN environment, focusing on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Responsibilities
Assist in data collection, compilation, and analysis for the Asia-Pacific SDG Partnership report and other relevant reports. Conduct background research and preliminary literature reviews for reports. Develop data work and analytical knowledge products to support training and capacity development initiatives. Provide logistical support for section meetings and events, including preparatory meetings for the Asia-Pacific SDG Partnership report and the High-level Political Forum. Assist in updating relevant websites with pertinent materials. Support the team with day-to-day activities and tasks as required. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring 35 hours per week under staff supervision.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. The focus is on academic background and the ability to commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Skills
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset. Ability to assist with data collection, compilation, and analysis. Research and literature review skills. Logistical support capabilities. Website content updating. Team collaboration.
