The Pension Administration division comprises 278 staff. This Treasury Assistant role is within the Cashier's Unit in New York, reporting to the Treasurer. The Unit manages treasury activities and cash flow operations, including currency exchange and payment systems.
Job Purpose
The Treasury Assistant role is crucial for the smooth operation of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund's financial activities. This position supports the Treasurer, Cashier, and Deputy Cashier in managing daily treasury operations, ensuring timely remittances to beneficiaries and efficient processing of contributions. Key responsibilities include monitoring cash receipts, preparing cash forecasts and reports, analyzing bank charges, and resolving payment-related inquiries. The role also involves assisting with payment processing, formatting banking details, and providing guidance to junior staff. By maintaining accurate financial records and facilitating effective cash flow management, the Treasury Assistant directly contributes to the Fund's ability to meet its financial obligations to participants and beneficiaries worldwide.
Responsibilities
The Treasury Assistant is responsible for supporting the Cashier and Deputy Cashier in monitoring cash receipts and contributions. This includes preparing monthly and weekly cash forecasts and generating periodic reports on contributions, disbursements, fund transfers, and cash flow. The role involves performing monthly bank charge analysis for all operational accounts and addressing bank inquiries regarding fund recalls, unapplied payments, and compliance. The Assistant will investigate payment issues raised by beneficiaries, prepare stop payment requests, and void payments as needed. Additionally, the position supports the Pension and Entitlement Section with payment instruction formatting, drafts correspondence for financial inquiries, and downloads daily bank transaction data to prepare cash position summaries. The role also includes providing guidance to junior staff, assisting with payroll cheque processing, advising on changes to bank correspondent relationships, and supporting the daily operations of the Cashier’s Section for worldwide payment transmittals.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. This is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Proficiency in Word, Excel, MS Access, and the Integrated Pension Accounting System is essential. Experience with bank directory data for payment routines, SWIFT messages, and banking terminology is also required. Knowledge of specific payment systems like SCB Straight2Bank and JPM Chase is desirable.
