The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), administered by UNEP and located in Montreal, supports the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity. This role supports the SCBD's work on the biodiversity and health nexus.
Job Purpose
This consultancy provides essential technical and organizational support to the UNEP's work on the biodiversity and health nexus. The role contributes to the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information, coordinating activities like webinars and meetings, and developing relevant documents and training materials. The consultant will facilitate stakeholder engagement and support the Conference of the Parties, ensuring effective communication and progress on the Global Action Plan on Biodiversity and Health. The position aims to enhance the operational capacity and outreach of the biodiversity and health program.
Responsibilities
Provide organizational and technical support for compiling, organizing, and analyzing information related to biodiversity and health, including research and submissions from parties and organizations. Coordinate activities such as webinars, side events, and meetings to support the Global Action Plan on Biodiversity and Health, facilitating liaison with stakeholders and identifying speakers. Develop various documents, including reports, surveys, thematic agendas, communication materials, and training resources on the biodiversity-health interlinkages. Offer technical support for the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity as needed. Maintain and update the website content related to biodiversity and health.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of work experience is required in the linkages between biodiversity and health. Additionally, two years of experience in program support, research, writing, and organizational functions are necessary. Experience with UN agencies and familiarity with key partners in One Health are desirable.
Skills
Strong communication and writing skills, including report production. Knowledge of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is desirable. Competencies include Professionalism, Communication, Teamwork, and Planning & Organizing. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.
