Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) in Rio de Janeiro supports governments and partners in implementing urban agendas. This role supports a project focused on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction for municipalities in Rio de Janeiro State.
Job Purpose
The Specialist Course Instructor will deliver two virtual training sessions (Sessions 2 and 8) for the "Integrated Territorial Planning: Strategies for Municipal Resilience" course. This role is crucial for strengthening the capacities of public officials in municipalities within the State of Rio de Janeiro. The instructor will ensure the technical accuracy and pedagogical quality of the training content, focusing on integrated territorial planning, climate risk prevention, and disaster risk reduction. The purpose is to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to implement effective urban planning policies that enhance resilience and sustainability, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and the New Urban Agenda.
Responsibilities
The Specialist Course Instructor is responsible for designing and developing accurate and pedagogically sound training materials for Sessions 2 and 8, including slide presentations in PowerPoint format. This includes creating lesson plans, learning assessment tools, and interactive activities. The instructor will deliver these two virtual sessions, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and active participant engagement. Responsibilities also include post-session follow-up, responding to participant queries, and participating in alignment and validation meetings with UN-Habitat and government representatives. Adherence to UN-Habitat quality standards, ethical principles in training delivery, and security protocols is mandatory.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of professional experience in teaching or facilitating participatory processes in Brazil is required. Technical experience in territorial and environmental planning in Brazil, and experience in climate crisis research or climate adaptation projects with an urban planning focus, are also required. Experience with multilevel climate policies and within the UN System is desirable.
Skills
Strong training delivery skills for professionals and public sector staff; ability to design and facilitate theoretical and practical activities using agile and participatory approaches; effective teamwork and flexibility; excellent written and spoken Portuguese; experience in capacity building for multidisciplinary teams is desirable; good knowledge of virtual learning platforms is desirable.
