Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, specifically the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Kenya Country Office, seeks a National Driver. This role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and is a 3-month assignment. The driver will support the OHCHR's operations by ensuring safe and efficient transportation of personnel and goods.
Job Purpose
The National Driver's primary purpose is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for authorized personnel and goods within Nairobi and surrounding areas. This role is crucial for supporting the OHCHR Kenya Country Office's operational needs, including official meetings, missions, and deliveries. The driver will ensure adherence to all traffic regulations and safety standards, maintain assigned vehicles in good working condition, and manage necessary documentation. By providing professional and courteous service, the driver contributes to the smooth functioning of the office and the successful execution of its mandate, ensuring timely and secure movement of people and materials.
Responsibilities
The National Driver is responsible for safely operating office vehicles for transporting authorized personnel, adhering to protocol during official meetings and missions. This includes making regular deliveries of parcels and documents between UN offices and other institutions. The role involves making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers, as well as handling customs procedures for collected goods. The driver will also meet and assist official personnel at the airport, facilitating immigration and customs. Key duties include maintaining the assigned vehicles through daily checks, minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness. Accurate logging of trips, mileage, and fuel consumption is required. The driver must follow procedures in case of accidents and apply good judgment. Additionally, the driver may assist with data collection, report preparation, and other assigned tasks when not driving, such as mail distribution.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressive, responsible experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Experience in driving various makes and models of vehicles, including vans, is necessary. Experience in data analytics or related areas for one year or more is desirable.
