Architect (Fixed-term Limited)

Organizational Context

This position is within the Strategic Heritage Plan project at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The role reports directly to the Team Lead, Architecture. The project focuses on the renovation of building E, requiring coordination and oversight of architectural and construction activities.

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to manage and coordinate contractor design activities and professional services for the renovation of Building E within the UN Office at Geneva's Strategic Heritage Plan project. The incumbent will lead reviews of technical design and execution documents, ensuring consistency with project requirements and engaging specialized consultants. Responsibilities include assessing value engineering proposals, responding to contractor queries, managing project documentation, evaluating proposed solutions based on various factors like user needs and sustainability, and supervising architectural works. The role also involves contributing to risk management and participating in final reviews and punch list resolution to ensure project success and adherence to standards.

Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate contractor design activities and professional services for the renovation of Building E. Lead reviews of contractor's technical design and execution documents, ensuring consistency with project requirements and engaging specialized consultants as needed. Critically assess and advise on value engineering proposals, ensuring design integrity, functional performance, quality, and regulatory compliance. Respond to contractor queries and work closely with the document manager for efficient processing and timely review of project documentation. Evaluate proposed solutions considering user requirements, aesthetics, architectural integrity, sustainability, local regulations, and existing conditions. Keep abreast of industry trends in planning, architectural, and engineering methods. Review and approve materials and mock-ups, and supervise the execution of architectural works. Participate in final architectural reviews, punch list resolution, and contribute to the development of a risk management plan.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in managing large-scale construction and renovation projects, including at least five years with international projects. Requires at least two years each in construction contract management, construction supervision in a design-and-build environment, and design coordination. Experience in heritage projects, conference facilities planning, and office space planning is also required, along with fire engineering experience.
