Organizational Context
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional commission of the UN Secretariat. The Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) within ESCAP supports 53 member states and 9 associate members. It conducts analytical studies, policy research, capacity building, and facilitates policy dialogues on macroeconomic and development financing issues.
Job Purpose
This internship within the Macroeconomic Policy and Financing for Development Division (MPFD) at ESCAP offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the Division's research and capacity development activities. The intern will gain practical experience by supporting research on macroeconomic policy and analysis, or financing for development. This role involves assisting in the preparation of publications, supporting workshops, and contributing to initiatives aimed at addressing sustainable development challenges and financing strategies within the Asia-Pacific region. The internship provides exposure to UN operations and policy-making processes.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to the Division's research activities, support capacity development initiatives, and assist in organizing workshops and meetings. Specific duties may include undertaking research and analysis on macroeconomic topics such as monetary policy, fiscal policy, tax cooperation, and public finance governance, or on financing for development, including sustainable and green finance instruments. Tasks involve preparing summary tables, graphs, and inputs for publications like the Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific. For financing for development, responsibilities include supporting technical consultations, designing capacity-building materials, developing e-learning modules, and coordinating capacity-building activities. The intern will also support the implementation of demonstration projects and regional initiatives.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for this internship. However, experience in reference research, data analysis, or familiarity with statistical methods is considered desirable. The internship is intended to provide practical experience and benefit from the intern's academic training, coursework, or skills.
