Communications Intern

Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serves as the Secretariat for the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol. This internship is based in the Ozone Secretariat in Nairobi, contributing to global environmental efforts and sustainable development within the UN system.

Job Purpose

This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience within the Ozone Secretariat in Nairobi. The intern will support the Communications and Public Information Officer, deepening their understanding of international environmental agreements. The role involves developing communication campaigns, researching content, and assisting with meeting coverage, contributing to the Secretariat's outreach and communication objectives. This position is ideal for developing skills in global communication strategies and event support within a UN context.

Responsibilities

Support the development and execution of in-house meeting coverage for the Secretariat's annual meetings. Assist in creating and deploying global communication campaigns, including those for World Ozone Day and the 10th anniversary of the Kigali Amendment. Provide communications, branding, and logistical support for meetings, particularly the Meeting of the Parties. Research and develop content for various communication channels. Work collaboratively with experienced professionals to further the team's communication and outreach initiatives.

Work Experience

No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program.

Skills

Knowledge of standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Strong written and spoken English communication skills. Ability to research and develop content. Skills in conceptualization, development, and deployment of communication campaigns. Logistical support capabilities. Understanding of environmental sciences or communications studies.
