Its International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is a data-driven initiative focused on reducing methane emissions, a key contributor to climate change. IMEO collects and reconciles data from various sources to support the Paris Agreement goals. This role supports the Head of IMEO.
Job Purpose
This Senior Consultant role is crucial for providing strategic guidance and expert advice to the Head of IMEO, ensuring alignment with UNEP's vision and mission. The primary purpose is to enhance the IMEO leadership's capacity for informed strategic decision-making. This involves supporting strategic planning, offering recommendations for strengthening IMEO's direction, and identifying opportunities for growth and innovation. The consultant will contribute to IMEO's mission of driving deep reductions in methane emissions by providing actionable data and insights, thereby supporting global climate action and the achievement of the Paris Agreement goals.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic guidance and recommendations to the Head of IMEO, ensuring alignment with UNEP's vision and mission. Support strategic planning and decision-making processes to strengthen IMEO's overall direction. Offer insights and advice on potential new opportunities for growth and innovation within IMEO. Prepare written strategic recommendation notes and reports. Advise on the collection, integration, and reconciliation of methane emissions data from diverse sources, including satellites, scientific studies, industry reporting (OGMP 2.0), and national inventories. Contribute to IMEO's role as a core implementing partner of the Global Methane Pledge, shaping future methane mitigation strategies.
Work Experience
A minimum of 15 years of experience is required in environmental science, policy analysis, environmental advocacy, or a related field. Familiarity with the oil and gas sector, specifically concerning major methane emissions sources and mitigation strategies, is necessary. Experience in summarizing and presenting scientific information to diverse audiences is also required.
