The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Subregional Office for West Africa (SRO WA) in Niamey, Niger, seeks a consultant to support programme implementation. This role contributes to strengthening economic diversification and resilience in West Africa through value chain development, macroeconomic stability, and intra-African trade initiatives.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide essential tools, studies, recommendations, and orientations to bolster economic diversification and resilience across West Africa. The role will focus on developing value chains, enhancing macroeconomic stability, and promoting intra-African trade. Key contributions include preparing assessments of regional and national value chains and their policy frameworks, collecting and analyzing economic data for policy formulation on critical issues like debt management and SDG/AfCFTA implementation, and supporting priority projects. The ultimate goal is to drive economic growth and integration within the region.
Responsibilities
The consultant will prepare assessments of regional and national value chains and their associated policy frameworks to advance economic diversification and industrialization in West Africa. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing economic data and information to support policy formulation on emerging West African issues such as debt management, domestic resource mobilization, and the implementation of SDGs and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The consultant will also support two priority projects related to debt management and AfCFTA implementation. Other tasks as requested by the Director of SRO WA may be assigned. Deliverables include detailed assessments of critical value chains and policy frameworks, and analyzed data for priority projects.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant working experience is required. This includes experience in sustainable development, economic research and analysis, macroeconomic modeling and analysis, policy formulation, project management, and evaluation. Experience in value chain analysis, economic diversification, supporting strategic plans for country/regional organizations, and report writing is also essential.
