Organizational Context
The Solutions Transformation Team (STT) within the UN Secretariat's Office at Vienna (UNOV) and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) develops innovative software solutions for Member States. These solutions operationalize mandates in countering corruption, drug control, and fighting financial crime, impacting investigations and convictions globally. This role supports the Digital Transformation umbrella.
Job Purpose
The Solutions Architect will lead a development team, oversee the development process using agile methodologies, and manage release strategies. This role involves conducting system design activities, reviewing detailed specifications with developers, and defining/documenting architecture to support UNOV-UNODC’s Digital Transformation and the Secretary-General’s Digital Strategy. The architect will design and implement strategic goals for software expansion and maintenance, aligning with Member State requirements and organizational objectives. Responsibilities include designing and delivering new modules with modern technologies like AI/ML, managing development lifecycle activities, engaging with other teams to uphold enterprise architecture standards, and facilitating dialogue with stakeholders to foster innovation. The role also involves executing test plans, managing client communications, handling incidents, and analyzing data for insights and reporting.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee a development team, managing agile development, release, and strategy. Conduct system design activities and review detailed application module specifications with developers. Design and implement strategic goals for software expansion and maintenance, aligning with Member State needs and digital transformation technologies. Define and document architecture for UNOV-UNODC’s Digital Transformation and the Secretary-General’s Digital Strategy. Design, create, and deliver new modules using modern technologies (e.g., AI/ML, distributed systems). Manage development lifecycle activities, including sprint meetings. Collaborate with other teams to uphold enterprise architecture standards. Facilitate dialogue with business sponsors and end-users on architectural principles and priorities. Develop and execute test plans for infrastructure performance, making standardization recommendations. Manage social media and client outreach content. Ensure effective client-technical team communication. Prepare submissions for and collaborate with UN architectural boards. Handle client complaints and major incidents, investigating and solving problems. Collect and analyze data to provide insights through visualization for planning and decision-making.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in IT Software Architecture, software development, and enterprise systems design is required. Experience in enterprise software development using modern practices like agile delivery, CI/CD, and automated testing is essential. Experience with .Net technologies, financial technology domains, AML/CFT frameworks, or the UN system is desirable.
