The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a Legal Consultant based in Cairo, Egypt, for a period of five months. This role supports initiatives to enhance human security for women and girls by addressing technology-facilitated violence and improving legal aid services through law school clinics.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to contribute to UNODC's efforts in combating technology-facilitated violence against women and girls (TFVAWG) in Egypt. The role involves designing and delivering a mock trial for criminal justice practitioners, developing comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for legal clinics at law schools, and co-delivering training sessions to law students. The ultimate goal is to enhance the capacity of legal professionals and students to address TFVAWG and provide effective legal aid, thereby improving the human security of women and girls in the digital age.
Responsibilities
Develop and design a mock trial focused on technology-facilitated violence against women and girls (TFVAWG) for criminal justice practitioners, including compiling case materials and creating an agenda. Deliver the mock trial, co-facilitating sessions and conducting wrap-ups and summaries. Prepare a post-trial report analyzing impact, lessons learned, and recommendations. Develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for legal clinics at selected law schools, including implementation guidance. Co-deliver training sessions to law students on operating legal clinics and providing legal aid to women and girls affected by cyber VAW&G. Ensure all deliverables are submitted to UNODC for approval.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the legal field at the international or national level is required. Proven experience in developing manuals and strategies related to gender and criminal justice is necessary. Practical experience in providing technical assistance and delivering training for criminal justice practitioners is also required. Experience within the UN system is desirable.
