Organizational Context

The UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Turkmenistan supports the UN Country Team in implementing the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and Agenda 2030. It has five core functions: Strategic Planning, Economics, Partnerships, Data Management, and Communications. This role is crucial for ensuring effective communication with government and international partners.

Job Purpose

This role serves to provide professional translation and interpretation services to facilitate smooth communication during various online or in-person meetings, conferences, and events. The incumbent will ensure linguistic and grammatical accuracy in English, Russian, and Turkmen, supporting the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in its interactions with government and international partners. The purpose is to bridge language barriers and ensure clear understanding of discussions and project-related activities, contributing to the effective implementation of UN initiatives in Turkmenistan.

Responsibilities

Provide high-quality consecutive and simultaneous interpretation between English, Russian, and Turkmen during meetings, conferences, and events. Accurately translate and edit documents as required. Perform other related tasks to support the job opening's nature. Ensure information confidentiality and demonstrate strong communication skills. Possess good knowledge of the country's cultural and sensitive aspects to facilitate effective communication and understanding.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of relevant practical experience as a translator and interpreter for English, Russian, and Turkmen languages is required. Experience in interpreting/translating/editing for various projects is expected.

Skills

Consecutive/simultaneous interpretation, translation, editing, strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, information confidentiality, fluency in English and Russian, knowledge of Turkmen.
