Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Egypt is undertaking an initiative to address technology-facilitated violence against women and girls (TFVAWG). This role supports the development of a multidimensional study, a comprehensive toolkit, and the establishment of legal clinics at Egyptian universities to enhance access to justice.
Job Purpose
This role serves to enhance the human security of women and girls in Egypt by addressing the negative implications of digitalization, specifically technology-facilitated violence against women and girls (TFVAWG). The consultant will support the development of a multidimensional study on TFVAWG in Egypt, a nationally owned toolkit with training modules, and recommendations tailored for criminal justice actors. Additionally, the role involves establishing legal clinics at Egyptian universities to improve practical learning, awareness, and access to justice for victims of VAW&G, working under the guidance of UNODC's Criminal Justice Expert.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include reviewing and finalizing the objectives and outline of a multidimensional study on TFVAWG and a comprehensive toolkit. The consultant will integrate relevant national legislation, strategies, and action plans into these documents, ensuring alignment with the Egyptian context. Responsibilities also encompass reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for legal clinics and providing guidance on their implementation. Furthermore, the role involves co-delivering training to law students on operating legal clinics and providing legal aid, developing training materials, and creating recommendations and a policy paper in collaboration with criminal justice actors.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the law field at the international or national level is required. Proven experience in developing manuals and strategies related to gender and criminal justice is necessary. Practical experience in providing technical assistance and delivering training for criminal justice practitioners is also required. Experience within the UN system is desirable.
Skills
Expertise in law, criminal law, international law, criminology, international relations, gender, or law enforcement. Experience in developing gender and criminal justice strategies and manuals. Skills in providing technical assistance and delivering training. Fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written) is required.
