GIS Developer / DBA
Organizational Context
The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is driving the digital transformation for the UN Secretariat, aiming for secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions. This role is within the Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS), specifically hosted by the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for the design, development, and support of software applications with Geospatial and/or AI components, adhering to UN standards. The purpose is to contribute technical expertise to solution design, ensure quality through testing and debugging, and provide comprehensive documentation. The position also involves managing and administering geospatial SQL databases, troubleshooting issues, and staying updated with industry advancements to propose new tools and libraries, ultimately supporting the UN's enterprise solutions and digital transformation initiatives.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include participating in the full lifecycle of application development, including programming, testing, debugging, and implementation of new applications with Geospatial and/or AI components, following UN established standards. This involves preparing detailed technical and user documentation for deployed GIS systems, creating training materials, and conducting technical presentations. The role also entails providing 3rd level application support, managing version control using systems like Git, performing data recovery, and troubleshooting issues. Additionally, the position requires managing and administering geospatial SQL databases, conducting ongoing reviews with users and developers, and staying current with field developments by performing benchmarking and proposing new tools and libraries.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Geospatial systems using ArcGIS is required. Additionally, 3+ years of experience with ETL for geospatial data, SQL, and geodatabase management is necessary. Experience with Geospatial data management and migration, and 2+ years using Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript for GIS are also required.
