The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in New York seeks an intern for its Science, Technology and International Security Unit. Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the UN's work on disarmament by focusing on advancements in science and technology within the context of international peace and security. The intern will support the Science, Technology and International Security Unit in its mission to address critical issues such as artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons, and cybersecurity. This role provides practical experience in research, document preparation, and monitoring emerging technological trends relevant to global security, contributing to the UN's efforts to maintain peace and security through disarmament initiatives.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in drafting and preparing official documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks, and web content. Key duties include monitoring trends and developments in emerging technologies and other cross-cutting issues relevant to disarmament. The intern will also conduct research on science and technology matters, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, uncrewed aerial vehicles, and lethal autonomous weapons systems. Additionally, the role involves assisting during conferences and intergovernmental meetings, and performing other related duties as required to support the unit's objectives.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field is necessary. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience within the UN system.
