Organizational Context
The Office of Internal Oversight Services Inspection and Evaluation Division (OIOS-IED) conducts independent inspections and evaluations for the UN Secretariat. This internship offers graduate students practical experience in a multicultural, intergovernmental setting, supporting evaluations relevant to their studies and gaining exposure to UN operations.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide graduate students with professional experience within the UN Secretariat's Office of Internal Oversight Services Inspection and Evaluation Division (OIOS-IED). Interns will contribute to the evaluation of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). The role involves applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects, assisting in data collection, analysis, and other tasks relevant to their educational background and interests, thereby enhancing their understanding of international organizations and evaluation methodologies.
Responsibilities
Interns will support the evaluation of the MONUSCO mission under the guidance of OIOS-IED managers. Key duties include conducting background research and summarizing data, assisting in the collection, organization, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. This involves taking notes during interviews, organizing documents, programming and testing online surveys, performing statistical and quantitative analyses, developing and testing databases and dashboards, and visualizing data using tools like MS Excel and Power BI. Interns may also utilize AI tools for analysis and assist with ad-hoc activities such as reviewing and editing evaluation products.
Work Experience
No specific prior work experience is explicitly required, but candidates should be computer literate in standard software, with a preference for Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Stata) and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is desirable. Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis, especially with large datasets, is highly valued.
