The Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children (SRSG-VAC) is an independent global advocate dedicated to preventing and eliminating all forms of violence against children. The SRSG acts as a bridge-builder, mobilizing action and political support across regions and sectors to promote behavioral and social change, anchored in human rights standards.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children (SRSG-VAC) in its global advocacy efforts. The intern will contribute to monitoring developments, assisting with administrative tasks, organizing events, and conducting research to support the SRSG's mandate. Key contributions include facilitating child participation, preparing documentation, and supporting engagement with international bodies and national institutions to advance the agenda of ending violence against children and promoting human rights standards.
Responsibilities
Support the monitoring of relevant developments concerning efforts to end violence against children. Assist with routine administrative tasks for the Office of the SRSG-VAC. Help organize conferences, events, and meetings. Take notes and draft summaries or action points from internal and external meetings. Conduct research and provide support to team members and regional focal points. Assist in strengthening child participation by preparing child-friendly documents and documenting youth-led initiatives. Accompany team members to various online and in-person meetings with delegates and other UN offices. Perform other requested functions as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for this internship. However, any relevant training, education, or coursework that benefits the United Nations' work is beneficial. Previous UN internship experience should be noted if applicable.
Skills
Research, administrative support, event organization, note-taking, report writing, communication, inter-agency collaboration, child participation advocacy, language proficiency (English, Arabic, and another UN language).
