This role supports the "Transforming the built environment through sustainable materials" project, focusing on advancing sustainable, affordable, and climate-resilient housing solutions in India and Bangladesh.
Job Purpose
This consultancy provides critical technical assistance to the Odisha Urban Housing Mission and the Dhaka Urban Development Authority to develop and implement scalable, cost-effective, low-carbon, and climate-resilient affordable housing solutions. The role aims to bridge the gap between design prototypes and on-ground implementation by developing integrated design prototypes, technical guidance, and policy recommendations. The objective is to embed sustainability, affordability, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and social inclusivity across the entire housing delivery process, from planning and design through to operation and long-term management, contributing to the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support to the Odisha Urban Housing Mission and Dhaka Urban Development Authority for cost-effective, low-carbon, and climate-resilient affordable housing. Develop integrated design prototypes and technical guidance. Formulate policy recommendations to embed sustainability, affordability, resource efficiency, climate resilience, and social inclusivity. Create state-level design guidelines applicable to all Affordable Housing Projects (AHP). Develop a scalable rental housing policy framework for Odisha. Produce a prototype for cost-effective, low-carbon, and climate-resilient affordable housing for the Dhaka Urban Development Authority. Ensure sustainability is integrated across all stages of housing delivery, from policy and planning to execution and long-term management.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainable buildings, housing policy, or climate-resilient urban development is required. Demonstrated research and publication experience on housing, informal settlements, or green construction is also necessary.
