Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulates international wildlife trade. The Secretariat supports Parties in implementing the Convention. This internship is within the CITES Outreach and Projects Unit in Geneva.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the CITES Outreach and Projects Unit in planning, researching, producing, and releasing communications and multimedia materials related to wildlife conservation. The role will contribute to capacity building and programme management activities, assisting in the dissemination of information across various CITES channels. The intern will gain practical experience in communications, project support, and the implementation of international environmental initiatives, contributing to the effective communication of CITES' work and objectives to a global audience.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning, researching, producing, and releasing communications and multimedia materials on wildlife conservation topics across CITES channels. Draft content for social media campaigns and CITES websites. Edit and produce photo and video content. Design outreach and capacity building materials, including factsheets and presentations. Organize and maintain internal storage for multimedia assets. Support communication planning and implementation for campaigns and key meetings. Monitor social media and website performance, compiling reports. Assist in organizing virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Provide programmatic and coordination support for OPU projects and initiatives.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, experience with graphic design software applications (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Canva) is required. Knowledge of website content management systems (e.g., Drupal) is desirable.
