Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), specifically the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division in Geneva, is seeking an intern. This role will contribute to the "Leveraging trade for a just and green transition" project, focusing on enhancing digital trade facilitation and promoting a gender-responsive green economy in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Western Balkans.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support a UN Development Account project focused on leveraging trade for a just and green transition in specific sub-regions. The intern will contribute to enhancing the capacity of target countries to adopt digital trade facilitation and transition towards a gender-responsive green economy. Key activities include assisting in analytical studies on sustainable and digital trade, assessing socio-economic needs, and developing country-specific recommendations for harnessing digital trade to address climate change. The role also involves desk research, data collection, stakeholder interviews, and contributing to policy recommendations, knowledge products, and communication materials. Additionally, the intern will provide research assistance on digital connectivity and trade facilitation, and support general communications and outreach efforts, including social media.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing and implementing analytical studies on sustainable and digital trade facilitation in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Assess socio-economic needs in target countries and provide country-specific recommendations for harnessing digital trade to address climate change. Contribute to national sustainable and digital trade facilitation roadmaps. Conduct desk research, collect data, and participate in interviews with trade stakeholders. Develop country-specific policy recommendations, presentations, briefing notes, knowledge products, and communication materials. Provide research assistance on digital connectivity and trade facilitation, including preparing speaking notes and concept papers. Offer general communications and outreach support, utilizing social media platforms.
Work Experience
No prior professional work experience is required. However, experience in research, policy analysis, communication, or event organization related to trade, transport, sustainability, or digitalization is considered desirable.
