Organizational Context
The United Nations Information Service (UNIS) at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) is seeking a Public Information Intern. This six-month, full-time, unpaid internship is based in Vienna, Austria, and operates under the direct supervision of professional staff within the Outreach Unit.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in public information and outreach within a United Nations context. The intern will support the Outreach Unit's daily activities, contributing to the organization and execution of various communication initiatives. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in preparing project outlines, assisting with events, drafting communication materials, and engaging with diverse stakeholders. The intern will play a supportive role in enhancing the visibility and impact of UNIS's outreach efforts, contributing to the broader mission of the United Nations.
Responsibilities
The intern will prepare project outlines and provide general support to the Outreach Unit's daily operations. Key duties include assisting in the organization of events, film screenings, exhibitions, and campaigns. The role involves drafting various written materials, presentations, remarks, social media content, and multimedia products. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for establishing and maintaining contacts with NGOs, IGOs, Civil Society, and academic institutions. The intern will also perform other necessary tasks as assigned to support the unit's objectives.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications. Fluency in oral and written English and German. Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds.
