Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) seeks a consultant in Geneva to support the TrainForTrade program. This role will enhance the implementation of activities and strengthen communication strategies to engage a wider network of stakeholders and partners in port and trade statistics-related initiatives.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to bolster the TrainForTrade program's operational capacity and outreach. The consultant will contribute to the effective implementation of training activities and enhance communication efforts to connect with a broader range of stakeholders and partners. This includes supporting research and analysis for key UNCTAD publications, organizing training events, and producing communication materials. The role aims to strengthen the program's impact in areas of port management, international trade, and statistics, fostering greater stakeholder engagement and program visibility. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Human Resource Development Section/TrainForTrade.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and organize national training activities for the English and French Port Management networks, liaising with instructors and focal points, and undertaking field missions as needed. Assist in organizing and serving as a jury member for final dissertations in various countries. Conduct research and analyze international trade and port data to contribute to UNCTAD's "Review of Maritime Transport" and the TrainForTrade Port Performance Scorecard. Prepare official communications, including letters and invitations, and manage participant registration. Draft final activity reports and create articles and other communication content, adhering to UN gender-inclusive language guidelines, to promote stakeholder engagement.
Work Experience
A minimum of 20 months of work experience is required in research related to economic and statistics policies, trade matters, or project management. Experience in economic and policy research, statistical procedures, and liaising with national and international stakeholders within an international organization is essential. Experience drafting reports and official communications is desirable.
