Evidence Reviewer
Organizational Context
The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) is part of the UN Secretariat, based in Geneva. This role sits within the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section (CASS), supporting the IIMM's mandate to collect and analyze evidence related to serious international crimes in Myanmar. The position is remote for an expected duration of 8 months.
Job Purpose
The Evidence Reviewer's primary purpose is to analyze evidentiary materials collected by the IIMM, identifying information pertinent to the mechanism's mandate. This involves preparing clear, concise analytical reports detailing findings and collating materials of evidentiary value for potential sharing with national, regional, or international courts. The role ensures timely and ongoing services to facilitate the work of other team members, presenting progress reports and findings to senior management. This contributes directly to the IIMM's objective of accountability and justice for serious international crimes in Myanmar.
Responsibilities
Review diverse evidentiary materials including documents, videos, and audio files, analyzing their relevance and use in accordance with guidelines. Support information and evidence review processes by preparing summaries or draft translations between Myanmar and English. Propose relevant search terms in the Myanmar language to expedite material review. Utilize information and evidence databases to identify duplicates and interconnections between materials from multiple sources. Employ specialized analysis software for recording searches, analysis, and findings, and for information verification. Coordinate with reviewers, analysts, investigators, legal officers, and supervisors to ensure conformity and consistency with internal guidelines. Maintain organized files and work accurately and efficiently to meet deadlines. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Work Experience
At least 1 year of responsible professional experience is required. Experience in monitoring and reviewing diverse materials, including social media, relevant to Myanmar is desirable. Experience in translation and analysis of Myanmar language content, including social media, is also desirable.
Skills
Fluency in English and Myanmar language (Burmese). Ability to analyze evidentiary materials. Experience with specialized analysis software and databases. Strong organizational and time management skills. Knowledge of criminal law, public international law, or international criminal law is desirable. Knowledge of other local Myanmar languages is desirable.
