Organizational Context
The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is responsible for ensuring security in the Abyei region. This role operates within the Guard Force Management Unit, reporting to the Chief Security Officer or Deputy Chief Security Officer through the Officer in Charge of the Compound Security Unit.
Job Purpose
The Security Guard's primary purpose is to ensure the smooth and effective operation of security guard shifts within their assigned teams. This involves maintaining physical security at UNISFA premises, controlling access for personnel and vehicles, conducting searches, and safeguarding UN property. The role contributes to the overall safety and security of the mission by diligently monitoring activities, reporting incidents, and assisting personnel and visitors.
Responsibilities
Provide physical access and egress control at UNISFA premises for personnel, vehicles, and materials. Conduct thorough physical checks and searches of individuals and vehicles entering or exiting UN facilities. Ensure all personnel and visitors display valid identification. Prevent unauthorized access and unknown packages. Inspect passengers and baggage at designated points. Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols to cover the entire premises. Assist newly arrived personnel and visitors. Safeguard UN properties, including warehouses and storage areas, and manage traffic control. Maintain the serviceability and cleanliness of security equipment, reporting any damages or malfunctions. Be prepared to perform escort duties as required. Ensure materials leaving the premises are properly documented. Report and register all incidents occurring during the shift. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of progressive experience in a local, national, or private police, security, or fire brigade organization is required. Previous operational or administrative employment is also considered.
