Organizational Context

The UNRWA Relief and Social Services Department (RSSD) manages extensive historical records of Palestine refugees. To enhance research, knowledge management, and digital access, RSSD is developing a secure, user-friendly web platform. This platform will centralize research activities, host the Research Review Board application, and provide access to UNRWA data and resources.

Job Purpose

This consultancy role focuses on the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of a new web-based platform for UNRWA's Relief and Social Services Department (RSSD). The platform will serve as a central hub for research activities, supporting the Research Review Board application process, providing access to relevant data and resources, and facilitating institutional coordination. The goal is to create a secure, user-friendly, and scalable system that enhances UNRWA's capacity for research and knowledge management, with potential for future integration of digital archival collections. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Senior Research and Partnership Officer.

Responsibilities

The Web Application Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining responsive and user-friendly web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This includes building and maintaining server-side application logic and web application functionality with C# and ASP.NET Core. The role involves developing and integrating REST APIs for seamless communication between frontend, backend services, forms, and databases. Additionally, the developer will implement functionalities for the Research Review Board application, manage data storage and retrieval using SQL Server or Azure SQL, and ensure the platform is responsive, accessible, scalable, and secure. Support for deployment, hosting, maintenance on Microsoft Azure, and version control using Git are also key responsibilities.

Work Experience

Requires at least two years of progressive experience in web application development, software development, or related technical work. Expertise in front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end (C#, ASP.NET Core) development, REST API integration, and database management (SQL Server/Azure SQL) is mandatory. Cloud hosting experience (Microsoft Azure) and version control (Git) are also required.
