Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. UN-Habitat Egypt, established in 2005, partners with the government and stakeholders to advance sustainable urbanization, aligning with the New Urban Agenda. The programme focuses on Urban Planning and Design, Urban Policies, Legislation and Governance, and Basic Services and Climate Change.
Job Purpose
This internship within UN-Habitat Egypt's Basic Services and Climate Change Programme offers hands-on experience in programme management and operational support. The intern will contribute to projects focused on sustainable mobility, climate change adaptation, and water and sanitation. Key contributions include assisting with project testing, coordinating with stakeholders, conducting research for new project concepts, developing communication plans, and supporting event organization. The role also involves providing essential administrative and operational support to the programme team, ensuring smooth project execution and effective communication.
Responsibilities
Provide programme management support for sustainable mobility, climate change adaptation, and water and sanitation initiatives. This includes assisting with field testing of projects like Cairo Bike, documenting findings, and coordinating with government entities, private operators, and NGOs. Support the development of new project concepts through research and stakeholder interviews, and draft communication plans. Assist in organizing events and collecting/processing project data. Offer operational and administrative support, such as drafting meeting minutes, proofreading documents, preparing presentations in English and Arabic, and managing programme-related files. Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, prior experience working or volunteering with NGOs, international organizations, or government bodies is desirable. Familiarity with graphic design, video editing, content creation, and social media management is also considered a plus.
