Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) secretariat organizes sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and its subsidiary bodies. This role supports the Governing Bodies and Legal Affairs Unit in managing documentation for COP17, CST17, and CRIC24, ensuring timely processing and publication of official documents.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to the UNCCD secretariat in processing official in-session and post-session documentation for COP17, CST17, and CRIC24. The consultant will ensure all documents adhere to United Nations editorial standards and are submitted on time to UNOG for translation. This involves meticulous formatting, tracking document status, liaising with author units, and managing the retrieval and uploading of translated documents, thereby contributing to the effective functioning of these critical international meetings and the dissemination of information to delegates.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for processing official in-session and post-session documentation for COP17, CST17, and CRIC24 under the supervision of the Conference Affairs Officer. Key duties include ensuring document formatting aligns with UN editorial practices and policies, verifying all editorial changes are made, and finalizing documents. The role also involves maintaining a tracking list for all documentation, regularly checking document status, and ensuring submission deadlines are met. Furthermore, the consultant will liaise with author units to facilitate timely document submission and follow-up for finalization after editing, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to schedules.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of experience in documentation processing is required. Experience working with documentation tools, such as gdoc 2.0, within the United Nations system is also necessary. The ability to act as an independent, individual economic operator is essential.
Skills
Documentation processing, familiarity with documentation tools (e.g., gdoc 2.0), knowledge of UN conferences and meetings, excellent writing and communication skills, fluency in English. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
