News Writing / Reporting - Public Information Intern - News and Content - Spanish

The Department of Global Communications, specifically the Spanish Language Unit within the UN News Section, seeks interns to gain practical experience in a newsroom environment. This role is based in New York and offers a duration of 2 to 6 months, focusing on the production of Spanish news and multimedia content.
Job Purpose
This internship provides an invaluable opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic UN newsroom, contributing to the production of daily news, in-depth features, and multimedia content in Spanish. The role is designed to develop practical skills in news writing, translation, fact-checking, and content creation across various platforms. Interns will support the Spanish Language Unit in disseminating information and engaging with a global audience, enhancing their understanding of international affairs and communication strategies within a United Nations context.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include drafting Spanish news articles by synthesizing information from diverse sources such as reports, press releases, and official statements. The intern will translate English video scripts, photo captions, and other texts into Spanish, and meticulously proofread news articles before and after publication. Additional duties involve assisting with fact-checking, conducting background research, and supporting the production of graphic, visual, and audio content. The intern will also be encouraged to develop feature stories through research and interviews, and contribute to reviewing the partnerships database for new digital media and fact-checking entities.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must possess good knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
