Organizational Context
The United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH) seeks a Water and Wastewater Quality Analyst to support its operations in Port-au-Prince. This role is crucial for ensuring the quality of water and wastewater, aligning with international standards and supporting local security forces.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to conduct comprehensive water and wastewater quality analyses to ensure a continuous supply of safe drinking water meeting WHO guidelines and to monitor wastewater quality for environmental compliance and safe reuse. The analyst will perform laboratory and on-site testing, maintain databases, provide training, and support various security forces with critical water quality assessments. This includes advanced analysis for forensic toxicology and pathogen detection, ensuring operational readiness and environmental protection within the mission area.
Responsibilities
Conduct regular water and wastewater quality surveillance, including historical data collection and on-site sampling. Perform detailed laboratory analysis for physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters, and advanced testing for pathogens and toxicology. Prepare monitoring schedules and reports, providing recommendations to water treatment operators. Maintain water quality databases and ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials. Conduct training for personnel on water quality testing, equipment maintenance, and process control. Support frontline locations with routine analysis for security forces and prepare regular and ad-hoc quality reports.
Work Experience
Requires at least eight years of professional experience in physical, chemical, and microbiological quality analysis of water and wastewater. Experience with standard laboratory instrument operation, maintenance, and reagent preparation is essential.
