Organizational Context
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) serves as the UN headquarters in Africa, supporting the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally. It also provides administrative, conference, and information services to other UN offices in Kenya. This internship is within the Host Country Services Unit (HCSU) of the Division of Administrative Services.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in data management and administrative support within the Host Country Services Unit (HCSU) at UNON. The intern will be responsible for accurately capturing and digitizing information, maintaining electronic records, and supporting data analysis to contribute to organizational goals. This role is crucial for ensuring the efficiency and accuracy of HCSU's operations, facilitating smooth administrative processes, and supporting the unit's mandate. The position offers an opportunity to gain exposure to UN operations and develop essential administrative and data handling skills in an international environment.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include capturing information from hard copy documents into electronic systems such as Excel, Access, and SharePoint, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards. The intern will create and maintain Excel-based tools and reports, and perform data analysis to provide insights supporting organizational objectives. Duties also involve entering information from various documents for storage and transmission, consistently verifying work for accuracy and completeness, completing and editing forms, and updating existing data in electronic systems. The role requires meticulous attention to detail in data entry and validation processes.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, candidates should possess computer literacy in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in data processing and analysis is considered beneficial.
