Organizational Context
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is seeking a Data Analyst Intern for its Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development Branch (PCSD) in Geneva. This is an unpaid, full-time internship, providing an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain experience within the UN system.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in data analysis and project support within UNCTAD's Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development Branch. The intern will contribute to the methodological maintenance and development of key indices, assist in quantitative analysis for national assessments, and support data collection and visualization efforts. This role is designed to enhance the intern's educational background by applying theoretical knowledge to real-world projects, fostering a deeper understanding of UNCTAD's work in trade and development, and contributing to the branch's ongoing initiatives and research.
Responsibilities
Support the Productive Capacities and Sustainable Development Branch (PCSD) and the UNCTAD Statistics Service in maintaining the Productive Capacities Index (PCI). Assist in finalizing and analyzing the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Satellite PCI. Conduct quantitative analysis for National Productive Capacities Gap Assessments (NPCGA) for specific countries. Contribute to data collection for existing and new PCI dimensions, adhering to recommendations from advisory groups. Develop appropriate data collection mechanisms. Generate data visualization products, including infographics and maps, for reports, meetings, and presentations. Adhere to all UN regulations and directives, and respect the impartiality and independence of the UN.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship's focus. A demonstrated keen interest in the UN's work and the ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds are expected.
