Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat, specifically UNRWA's Programme Relief & Social Services Department at Headquarters Amman, is implementing a large-scale Digital Archiving and AI-enabled document processing program. This initiative aims to digitize, classify, extract, validate, and reinstate historical refugee registration records. The role is based in Luxembourg and is for an initial duration of 12 months, with potential for extension.
Job Purpose
The Data Cleaning & Quality Assurance Consultant will play a crucial role in preparing historical refugee registration datasets for digitization and AI processing. This involves ensuring the reliability and usability of data by meticulously cleaning, validating, and standardizing it. The consultant's work directly supports UNRWA's mission to preserve its institutional memory and the history of Palestine refugees by making vast archives accessible and accurate. This role is integral to the success of the Digital Archiving and AI-enabled document processing programme, contributing to the modernization of records management and the effective management of refugee data.
Responsibilities
The Data Cleaning & Quality Assurance Consultant will be responsible for reviewing raw datasets (Excel, CSV, shapefiles) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency. Key duties include identifying and correcting duplicate entries, missing values, and format inconsistencies. The consultant will standardize project naming conventions, location data, and sectoral classifications to ensure data compatibility for integration into new systems. Additionally, the role involves performing quality assurance checks on finalized data layers and project attributes, and documenting all data cleaning procedures to ensure transparency and replicability. Collaboration with the team to facilitate seamless data integration is also a core responsibility.
Work Experience
A minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience in data management, data review, quality assurance, reporting, or administrative support functions is desirable. Experience working with datasets, records, spreadsheets, or information tracking systems is also beneficial. Experience supporting data verification, document review, or quality control processes is considered an asset.
